Most of us have a woman in our life who has inspired us to be a stronger, better version of ourselves. They have supported us in hard times, whether they know it or not. In fact, most of the time these beautiful women live without knowing how much they have impacted us. I’m running a contest in honor of these amazing women in our lives. Syracuse Boudoir, of Caitlyn Bom Photography wants to show one amazing, beautiful, and loved woman just how much she is appreciated by giving her a day in the studio to get glammed up and photographed!

The morning was filled with laughter and hugs. I’ve never seen a more relaxed group of ladies in the morning. Elinor patiently waiting through the teasing and pulling of her hair to create a beautiful updo. The rest of the girls popping in and out in between their own hair and makeup appointments. Au Premier did a wonderful job taking care of everyone and ensuring their needs are met (want a Venti Zebra Mocha Frappuccino? I’m sure they’d conjure up a way to get one in your hands within 5 minutes…Okay, I don’t drink coffee or Frappuccino’s so I don’t know, but they do have a beautiful machine and some awesome looking drinks came out of it).

A wedding with some awesome traditions, a lot of partying, even more laughter, and all beautifully put together by an amazing couple. Elinor & Antonio, I can’t say it enough: I feel so honored to have been a part of your big day! You two are incredibly kind and warm, and you definitely deserve all the amazing things to come in your future together. I’m sure you’ve enjoyed Europe! I can’t wait to see your photos

I always get giddy when I read emails like this. I instantly remembered who she was, and we chatted. After a few weeks Chelsey and Ryan finalized their perfect date we finally set up their engagement session! I can’t even begin to explain how compassionate and caring these two are. Their home is perfect, and of course I attribute this to Chelsey’s knack for making sure everyone is comfortable. Ryan is her rock and supports her every move, you can just see how much he loves her. I feel so lucky to have such amazing brides and grooms. The referrals really make that happen, good people sending more good people.

Hiring the right team is critical to planning your dream wedding…and it can also be quite stressful.

How do you find the right match for you? How do you know who to trust? Where do you go for advice?

First of all, this is not an easy task and it’s totally normal for couples to feel overwhelmed, frustrated or confused.

It’s not like you plan a wedding every day! This is all probably brand new to you, so be patient with yourself.

A few tips to finding the right ones for you…

• Do Your Homework. You’ll get much more out of a meeting or conversation with a wedding professional if you do a little background homework first.

Spend some time on the internet or talking to friends who’ve recently been married. Find out the average prices in your area and what services are available. Get an idea of what you like and don’t like. Wedding websites and chat rooms can be a great resource. This way when you meet with a wedding professional you’ll be able to ask better questions and have an idea of what to look out for.

• Meet With Them. An in person meeting is the best way to interview a potential wedding vendor. It lets you get the full experience of their personality, style and professionalism. If that’s not possible, have a phone conversation.

• Ask Questions. There are no stupid questions! Make sure you get clear, specific answers to your questions. If you aren’t sure what something means, ask them to clarify. Keep asking questions until you completely understand.

If a wedding vendor has a problem with you asking questions, they probably aren’t the one for you. The best wedding professionals are patient, understanding and take the time to help you make the best choices for your wedding.

• Listen. Don’t just hear the words they say, really listen. Watch the vendor’s body language. Are they confident and comfortable with their response? Do they look and sound nervous? Do you get a “funny feeling” about them? Take all the sights, sounds and feelings into account along with their responses; if your gut tells you something isn’t right, it probably isn’t.

• Check References. Portfolios are hand-picked to show off the best work, but they may not represent the “average” wedding performance. Videos are edited for the optimum presentation. But real referrals from satisfied clients are hard to fake.

Call up both client and professional references. Ask questions and use those listening skills. Even if they give a rave review, you’ll often be able to “read between the lines” if there were any issues or problems.

Ask around and search the internet for reviews. Check the Better Business Bureau for any outstanding complaints against the business. Weigh all of this information into your choices.

Here are 8 Must Ask Questions to ask ALL your potential wedding professionals before booking:

1. How many weddings do you do per year? How much experience do you have?

This is an extremely important question. Ideally, your wedding professional should have ample experience specifically with weddings. Not only will they be more skilled in their craft, this also makes them a valuable source of information and ensures that your wedding day goes smoothly.

2. How much do you cost?

Price is often relative, especially when you factor in experience, reputation and expert skill. Generally, the most talented professionals have a higher price tag because they are worth it.

3. How much is the deposit?

4. What specifically is included in that cost?

Because packages often vary, it’s likely that you won’t be able to compare one vendor exactly to the next without doing a little figuring. The lowest cost isn’t necessarily the best deal; some higher quotes include services that you have to pay extra for in other packages. Make sure you take this into account.

5. What happens if I cancel? What happens if you cancel?

Find out if your deposit is refundable under any conditions. Does the wedding professional have a back up plan if something happens to them?

6. Do you use a contract?

If the answer is No, RUN! A contract is designed to protect both you and the wedding professional. Don’t settle for a verbal agreement that won’t hold up in court.

7. Are there any additional fees?

Taxes, service charges and travel fees can add up quickly. Make sure you understand exactly what is included and if there are any other fees you’ll have to pay. This should be clearly defined in your contract.

8. Do you carry liability insurance?

The answer you’re looking for here is Yes. This protects you in case an unfortunate accident should occur on your wedding day. It’s also a sign that this is a reputable business, since most “fly by night” operations don’t invest in insurance.

I can’t even put into words how much I love Rock the Dress Sessions (otherwise known as Bridal Sessions or Trash the Dress sessions). I think there is more to it than just a simple Bridal Session or just Trashing the dress though. This is truly a memory you are creating with a dress you spent so much money on (for just one day! ugh! ).

Jamie and I have been planning this session for ages, and finally the day came that I was able to head up to Henderson Harbor, NY to photograph the absolutely gorgeous Jamie and stunning Justin (and their handsome puppy Blu!) The clouds looked scary for a little while, but it actually panned out PERFECT for this session! Take a look!

Simple and beautiful. Victoria & Jesse shared vows and happiness with friends and family at the Chantelle Marie Lakehouse in Auburn, NY. Guests witnessed this beautiful marriage under a permanent tent (which makes sense to have in Upstate, NY with the crazy weather we have, yet this is the first venue I’ve photographed that thought of it!), and the rain actually held out throughout the ceremony and most of the reception so everyone could really take in this special day.

When I talked to Victoria about this wedding, the word “wedding” was actually the last characterization she gave the event. This was to be more like a party, with friends and family as well as a few wedding-ish details. Nothing was to be structured or planned that would cause panic or worry. Both Jesse and Victoria wanted this to be as relaxed as possible, so they could truly enjoy their matrimony. Two wedding dresses, a ceremony, and some impromtu speeches really tied everything together nicely.

Victoria & Jesse… I will always remember your wedding, because it was very unique. I’ll remember how your friends and family supported you, and added the perfect elements when necessary without the entire day turning into something you didn’t want. It was truly beautiful, and it was a nice reminder that “back to basics” isn’t boring

All the pieces of the wedding were carefully picked by Lorri, and Josh was right along side her when it came to personal creations throughout the venue, Association Island in Henderson, NY. This wedding was a true collaboration of love. Lorri sent me sneak peeks of everything throughout the process, and the excitement of what was in store was overwhelming! Walking up to the ceremony spot and into the reception venue was absolutely breath taking. All of these fine details were topped with the great weather we had and a gorgeous sunset!

Lorri & Josh…Your love runs deep and I’m happy to be a part of your happily ever after. I’ve known Lorri for a few years now, and I truly believe you two are meant for one another. Thank you so very much!

The support that Jamie & Mike had between family and friends, as well as the pure honesty they had towards one another was amazing. It’s truly strange stepping into other people’s lives and essentially living with them for a day. You pick up on little details about each one, which in turn you hope to be able to photograph so the day is genuine when they look back over the years. While it seems every wedding is fun, exciting, and full of surprises, this particular wedding day held quite a few amazing little details, and boy was it amazing being there to photograph them!

Jamie & Mike… Your wedding was truly inspiring and really helped me realize some new things, and I feel like I grew a little bit through this experience. Your family and friends were really amazing, not to mention hilarious! Here’s to many years of happiness in your newly bought home. I’m happy my images will be able to fill up some of that new space!
